Nearly half of all surveyed companies rewarding employees<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span> with summer bash<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

TREVOSE, PA<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span> \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span> <\/b>July 28, 2011<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span> \u2013<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span> Companies are rewarding employees for surviving the recession with company picnics featuring everything from <\/span><\/span><\/span>frisbees<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>, dunk tanks and egg races to drinking games, <\/span><\/span><\/span>jousting<\/span><\/span><\/span> and medical testing, says a new survey from the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Advertising Specialty Institute<\/span><\/span><\/span> (<\/span><\/span><\/span>ASI<\/span><\/span><\/span>).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Of those surveyed, <\/span><\/span><\/span>4<\/span><\/span><\/span>1<\/span><\/span><\/span>% say they<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2019re<\/span><\/span><\/span> plan<\/span><\/span><\/span>ning<\/span><\/span><\/span> a company picnic <\/span><\/span><\/span>this summer<\/span><\/span><\/span>. And <\/span><\/span><\/span>8<\/span><\/span><\/span>% say they are hosting a picnic for the first time or the first time in recent years.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCompanies that are finally making money again are rewarding their employees for all their hard work and boosting morale with big employee picnics this year,\u201d said <\/span><\/span><\/span>Timothy M. Andrews<\/span><\/span><\/span>, president and chief executive officer of <\/span><\/span><\/span>ASI<\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhether you do it with pony rides and <\/span><\/span><\/span>barbecue<\/span><\/span><\/span> or competitive tournaments and beer, it\u2019s clear from our survey that companies are having fun again.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Companies responding to the survey spend an average of $4,116 on their company picnic. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Those polled cited a number of different recreational offerings at their picnics, including <\/span><\/span><\/span>bouncy houses<\/span><\/span><\/span>, inflatable slides, <\/span><\/span><\/span>crafts,<\/span><\/span><\/span> games,<\/span><\/span><\/span> races<\/span><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>carnival attractions, <\/span><\/span><\/span>raffles, <\/span><\/span><\/span>water guns<\/span><\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/span> hotdog eating competitions and even <\/span><\/span><\/span>medical testing, <\/span><\/span><\/span>jousting and drinking games.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

ASI<\/span><\/span><\/span> surveyed a random sampling of 400 individuals working at companies outside the promotional products industry.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

ASI<\/span><\/span><\/span> is the largest education, media and marketing organization for the <\/span><\/span><\/span>$17 billion<\/span><\/span><\/span> promotional products industry. Promotional products (aka<\/span> giveaways, ad specialties, swag, freebies<\/span>) are items like pens, T-shirts, caps, coffee mugs and high-tech electronics imprinted with a logo or slogan to promote everything from a new store opening or hot new product to a Super Bowl win or even the U.S. <\/span><\/span><\/span>C<\/span><\/span><\/span>ensus. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to <\/span><\/span><\/span>ASI research<\/span><\/span><\/span>, promo products beat out prime-time TV, radio and print advertising as the most cost-effective advertising medium available.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
