Highlights of the 2010 Corporate Gift Spending survey include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Stable spending<\/strong>. Nearly six out of 10 respondents plan to spend about the same on corporate gifts for both employees and prospects or clients. Nearly one-third (31%) plan to spend less, and only 12% plan to spend more, suggesting an overall net decrease.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chow down<\/strong>. Food or beverages are the most commonly cited client or prospect gift (33%), followed by calendars (25%), gift cards (25%), writing instruments (25%) and desk accessories (24%).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cards and cash<\/strong>. Gift cards are the most commonly cited gift for employees (40%), followed by cash bonuses (32%), apparel (24%), food or beverages (24%) and calendars (18%).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Love the logo<\/strong>. Over one-half (54%) plan on decorating the gifts with their logo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cEvery holiday season, companies make critical decisions over what to give and how much to spend on gifts for employees and clients,\u201d said Timothy M. Andrews, president and chief executive officer of ASI. \u201cOur survey shows that as the economy rebounds, gift giving remains an integral part of company feel-good campaigns, as business owners discover ever more creative ways to pass along their name and logo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent feature on ASI\u2019s popular \u201cThe Joe Show\u201d video, this year\u2019s hottest corporate thank-you gifts include food and wine baskets, Kindle and iPod covers, clocks, walking sticks, a Philadelphia Rapid Transit cap, and \u201clove rocks\u201d that can be engraved with words or a company\u2019s logo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFood is a perennial hit, since it can be enjoyed and shared by the whole office or department,\u201d said Andrews. \u201cBut this year, there\u2019s no denying the popularity of accessories for high-tech items and techno gifts like charging docks with a four-port hub or a wireless USB laser pointer. Companies that want to be seen as socially responsible will send eco-friendly products made of bamboo or from recycled material.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tips for corporate gift giving include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>If you put your logo on a corporate gift, make it subtle, or put your logo on an accompanying note card. Recipients will still remember who they received it from.<\/li>\n<li>Nobody throws away a personalized item (one with their name on it; get the spelling right).<\/li>\n<li>Order logoed\/personalized products early (like now) so there\u2019s time to craft, ship and distribute.<\/li>\n<li>Consider gifts that give back: for each gift sent, for example, a percentage is given to a local charity.<\/li>\n<li>Work with an established, reliable, knowledgeable distributor, such as an ASI member. They have access to thousands of products with unique twists that the average buyer might not think or know about.<\/li>\n<li>Know your audience and ask questions: Focus on your firm\u2019s unique brand or style.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the gift\u00a0 is useable and\/or high-quality. If you wouldn\u2019t want it, neither will they.
