{"id":2363,"date":"2016-06-06T13:38:09","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T13:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asi2.wpenginepowered.com\/uncategorized\/new-end-buyer-study-shows-paper-catalogs-drive-93-of-purchasing-decisions\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T16:27:45","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T20:27:45","slug":"new-end-buyer-study-shows-paper-catalogs-drive-93-of-purchasing-decisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asicentral.com\/press-releases\/new-end-buyer-study-shows-paper-catalogs-drive-93-of-purchasing-decisions\/","title":{"rendered":"New End Buyer Study Shows Paper Catalogs Drive 93% of Purchasing Decisions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Viewing catalogs spurs nearly half to buy products<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; font-size: small;\"><strong>TREVOSE, PA \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>October 15, 2009<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>&#8211;<\/strong> Advertising Specialty Institute<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, the largest media and marketing organization serving the advertising specialty industry, today announced results of an exclusive end buyer study that shows paper catalogs drive 93% of purchasing decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Further, the study shows that 91% of the time recipients take action as a result of something they noticed in a paper catalog, with nearly half (49%) purchasing a product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u00a0The report provides research about catalogs generally, not specifically about catalogs published by ASI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">The study indicates that paper and online catalogs are not only effective sales tools, but also serve as resources for buyers in these ways:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><strong>Sparking creativity<\/strong>.\u00a0 Nearly all respondents (95%) indicated that paper and online catalogs provide them with creative ideas, and 88% percent agree that paper catalogs alone are useful in generating ideas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><strong>Discovering new products<\/strong>. \u00a0The majority, or 91%, indicated they are introduced to new products through catalogs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><strong>Importance of customization<\/strong>.\u00a0 According to 90% of respondents, end buyer catalogs typically include contact information so that items can be ordered, reinforcing the importance of imprinting by distributors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">In addition, results show that paper catalogs should be used in conjunction with electronic catalogs, as 71% say they consult both before making a purchase decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u201cI believe the results of this study will surprise distributors and suppliers and they can use the knowledge here to their advantage,\u201d said Timothy M. Andrews, president and chief executive officer of ASI.\u00a0 \u201cThe study shows that catalogs are as important as ever in our industry, and that end buyers hold them in high regard as marketing resources.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u201cCatalogs are reliable, grow sales and provide a big bang for your buck,\u201d Andrews said.\u00a0 \u201cIf you have a client interested in planning events or anything for a trade show, for instance, provide them with a catalog so they can start shopping immediately.\u00a0 Over four million end buyers have seen our catalogs, including our proven selling tools <em>Select<\/em> and <em>Spectrum<\/em>.\u00a0 We\u2019re rolling out our lineup of 2010 catalogs now, including digital versions of three of them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
