{"id":2262,"date":"2016-06-06T13:38:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T13:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asi2.wpenginepowered.com\/uncategorized\/asi-employees-family-honored-by-the-red-cross\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T15:40:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T19:40:41","slug":"asi-employees-family-honored-by-the-red-cross","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asicentral.com\/press-releases\/asi-employees-family-honored-by-the-red-cross\/","title":{"rendered":"ASI Employee\u2019s Family Honored by the Red Cross"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TREVOSE, PA \u2013 April 12, 2007 &#8211;<\/strong> Advertising Specialty Institute\u00ae, the largest media and marketing organization serving the advertising specialty industry, announced today that Alex Maratea was honored with a Real Heroes award from The American Red Cross.\u00a0 Alex is the daughter of ASI employee, Jim Maratea.<\/p>\n<p>Real Heroes awards recognize individuals who have exhibited exceptional acts of heroism through selfless bravery in their local communities and are presented by The American Red Cross, Lower Bucks County Chapter.<\/p>\n<p>The rescue occurred as Alex and her sister, Nikki, were purchasing tickets to board a local train.\u00a0 Derrian, three weeks old at the time, was in his stroller and on the station\u2019s concrete platform with them.<\/p>\n<p>While they were making final arrangements at the cashier\u2019s window, a sudden gust of wind pushed Derrian\u2019s stroller down the platform and over its edge.\u00a0 It landed on the tracks, four feet below, and in the path of an oncoming train.<\/p>\n<p>Alex leapt onto the train tracks, took Derrian from the overturned stroller and handed him safely to Nikki, who was standing above.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just jumped down and got him and luckily there were a few seconds to get onto the tracks to help,\u201d said Alex Maratea, honoree.\u00a0 \u201cThe train was only a few blocks away and I knew I had to get my nephew to safety, so I acted as fast as I could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t until after the event occurred that Alex and Nikki were notified by authorities that Alex had avoided the electrified third rail during her rescue, which no one knew was there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very proud of Alex and congratulations to the Maratea family,\u201d said Timothy M.
