{"id":1978,"date":"2018-05-03T12:23:51","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T12:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asi2.wpenginepowered.com\/uncategorized\/asi-awards-three-industry-interns-1000-college-scholarships\/"},"modified":"2023-10-31T16:14:10","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T20:14:10","slug":"asi-awards-three-industry-interns-1-000-college-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asicentral.com\/press-releases\/asi-awards-three-industry-interns-1-000-college-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"ASI Awards Three Industry Interns $1,000 College Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Winners interned at 1338Tryon, HALO Branded Solutions and Free Advertising Inc.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>TREVOSE, PA \u2013 September 19, 2017 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/\">Advertising Specialty Institute<\/a><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0(ASI) today announced it awarded $1,000 college scholarships to three interns who participated in its industry-wide internship program: Kyra Jorgensen, intern at 1338Tryon (asi\/287946); Kedrick Shin, intern at HALO Branded Solutions (asi\/356000); and Ashley Burrows, intern at Free Advertising Inc. (asi\/198245).<\/p>\n<p>ASI started its internship program in 2016 to attract more young professionals to the industry and to expose them to the power of promotional products. ASI\u2019s second annual program attracted 166 trainees from 125 participating companies, including 11 suppliers and 114 distributors. ASI supplied the interns with training webinars, free access to ESP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, attendance to its Chicago trade show, a gift pack, a certificate of completion and the chance to write an essay about what they learned through their internship and compete for a scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was evident to our judges that these three interns made the most out of their experience and have a strong understanding of our industry,\u201d said Timothy M. Andrews, ASI\u2019s president and chief executive officer. \u201cI\u2019m sure the companies who participated learned as much from these smart, engaged young people as they learned from us. I can\u2019t wait to see how many more interns we welcome to our industry in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Below are excerpts from the three winning essays.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asicentral.com\/news\/web-exclusive\/september-2017\/asi-awards-three-interns-college-scholarships\/\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to read the essays in full on ASI\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kedrick Shin:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cOverall, this internship has taught me a lot about the promotional products industry, and how popular these products are. I\u2019ve heard promo products described as \u2018walking billboards,\u2019 and that statement really is true. If someone really enjoys a product they bought, they will be using it, wearing it, or looking at it almost daily, and others will see it too. The advantage of promotional products is that they are much cheaper than an actual billboard, and arguably more effective.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kyra Jorgensen<\/strong>: \u201cBy putting a logo on a promotional product, companies not only advertise to the individuals that receive the product, but ultimately to everyone. This is because promotional products are often useful items that individuals use on a daily basis such as water bottles or pens, allowing a wide audience to see the logo rather than just the person using the product.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ashley Burrows:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI may not have gone to the beach or soaked up the sun as one would usually do during the summer, but this has been the best summer I have ever had. I\u2019ve learned invaluable life skills I could not learn anywhere else, and now I know what I want to do for the rest of my life.
