Sustainability and environmental movements spur ESP searches of eco-friendly straws<\/em><\/p>\n

TREVOSE, PA \u2013 November 20, 2019 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Counselor\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0magazine, the voice of the $24.7 billion promotional products industry, today named reusable straws its 2019 Product of the Year.<\/p>\n

The award-winning Counselor, edited by C.J. Mittica, is published by the\u00a0Advertising Specialty Institute\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0(ASI). According to Counselor, year-over-year searches in ESP for the term \u201creusable straws\u201d were up 402%; \u201cstainless steel straws,\u201d up 294%; and \u201cstraw,\u201d up 271%. All three are in the top five biggest product search increases in 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe environmental movement, coupled with the influence of the millennial and Gen Z demographics\u2019 embrace of sustainability and visceral aversion to single-use plastics, has generated a wave of plastic straw-shunning,\u201d said Michele Bell\u00a0(@ASI_MBell), head of ASI\u2019s editorial department. \u201cThankfully, the promotional products industry is savvy enough to jump on fast-moving trends and provide the kind of products today\u2019s consumers are demanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are currently 275 suppliers in ESP carrying reusable straws. ASI\u2019s ESP is the industry\u2019s number-one business platform, averaging over 2.7 million distributor searches per month. Of the Top 40 distributors, 36 chose ESP, the industry\u2019s largest, most accurate promotional products sourcing and marketing tool.<\/p>\n

Brands like Starbucks and American Airlines, as well as restaurants across America and in Europe, have started foregoing the ubiquitous red- and blue-striped plastic straws, encouraging consumers to find alternate methods that reduce plastic usage and lessen the impact on the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe retail\/fashion industry is probably the biggest buyer of these products from us,\u201d distributor Michael Scott Cohen, CEO of the NYC-based distributor Harper + Scott,\u00a0told Counselor.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s not just about the product though; we\u2019re helping construct the story behind why they\u2019re giving away a reusable\/sustainable product.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
